WALLACE
Region: Escanaba, Menominee & the Green Bay Shore
Wallace is one of the smaller places along U.S. 41, once on the Chicago & Northwestern railroad line. It has a post office, a building supply firm, and a bar, but the attraction for outsiders is the excellent bacon, sausage, and beef jerky produced by Gary Peretto on the premises Gary's Quality Foods (906-788-4200) right on the highway. It's open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Central Time, Sundays 8 to 5.
