Spray Falls

| Enjoy an exceptionally beautiful hike of several miles to see Spray Falls empty into Lake Superior. |
This is a fantastically beautiful hike with a great variety of terrain. The sandstone (instead of the usual Upper Peninsula of Michigan basalt rock) reminds one of Kentucky, however, this is much more dramatic. A woodland lake, lichens, beautiful cliffs and a sand beach culminate with a beautiful waterfall on what is clled both Spray River and Spray Creek.
This is a long hike on a well marked trail. There are some ups and downs, but it is not difficult walking, and there are steps at the steep sections.
Drive within the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore on County Road H-58 and turn north on the Beaver Lake Campground Road (a.k.a.County Road 699 or Little Beaver Lake Road).
After about three miles (before reaching the campground) turn left and park at the trail parking lot. There is a trail sign. Take the trail 1.5 miles north to the lakeshore trail. Walk west on the lakeshore trail two or three miles to a broad bridge that crosses the river, about thirty yards from the crest of the waterfall.
