Tina's Katalina
(906) 482-8840
Owners Tina and Peter Strack have cleaned up the Katalina, bought some new booths, and moved in above this well-known downtown café. The restaurant reopened in summer 2010. Broasted chicken, roast beef, and liver and onions are customer favorites. Tina and her sisters Teresa and Debbie are busy turning out 5 kinds of pies ($2.50), 5 soups, cinnamon rolls and blueberry muffins for breakfast and a variety of lunch and dinner specials: hot meat loaf, spaghetti, cheesy ham and potatoes, chicken dumplings, roast turkey—comfort food that has people flocking to this homey café. "I've always wanted to own my own restaurant," says the veteran waitress. Her good-natured friendliness is part of the revived Katalina's success. It's always open for holidays. Christmas dinner comes with all the trimmings, and locals love it. Tina turns out tortes, bars, and cakes in addition to those pies in her role as dessert cook.
