PAUL'S SUPERIOR VIEW RESTAURANT AND PORKIES PUB
(906-885-5311)
This year-round restaurant connected to the AmericInn offers a very pleasant atmosphere and generally good food.. The restaurant overlooks Lake Superior beyond a lawn and trees. The cozy lounge is warmly inviting in winter. Both serve the same menu. The sizable burrito ($9.25) is a good value. Friday brings the fish fry ($11), Saturday the prime rib buffet, and Wednesday is walleye night ($19). BBQ ribs are the house specialty.
THE FOOTHILLS
(906) 885-5246
In the right season, The Foothills serves lunch and dinner, and breakfast any time the grill isn't being used for hamburgers. BBQ ribs are a specialty. BBQ ribs with a secret sauce ($13) are a huge favorite. Wednesday's ribs special is under $10. We enjoyed attentive service and a meal of whitefish, baked potato, tossed salad, and soup. There's also a lighter fare menu, sandwiches, homemade soups, and plate lunches. and burgers, nachos, and bar food. The tenderloin steak sandwich, under $8, is "unbelievable," says owner Gerry Yaklyvich, an Ontonagon County snowmobile pioneer. He and his late wife bought The Foothills in 1979, and he wouldn't mind selling the property today.
The Foothills was built after alcohol was made legal in 1933 as The Silver Court, with 13 cabins in a horseshoe, and a dance hall. (That hasn't been used since the White Pine Mine closed). Children's menu.
