Village Fabrics & Crafts

Most fabrics at this unusual store are cottons and flannels. Examples on display can involve all kinds of unusual techniques in hangings, garments, and useful and decorative objects. A staff of four explores new horizons in all kinds of fabric-based projects, starting with conventional quilting, knitting, and cross-stitch to include silk ribbon embroidery, needle felting, water felting and more. (Felting involves sewing or knitting a wool item and shrinking it in hot water for a warm, dense fabric.) Felted pieces crocheted together can become bowls, slippers, and tote bags, for instance. Hats can be made by line-wrapping fabric around clothesline. Owner Vicki Hallix and her daughter Lisa will plan everything for a group day class or weekend project, including accommodations and meals. Ask about current classes. Vicki's husband, Chuck, repairs all brands of sewing machines.
