Tahquamenon Whitefish Bay Picnic Area

Visitors can enjoy the view of Whitefish Bay and Canada to the east while wading in the shallow waters of this sandy beach.
The picnic area, part of Tahquamenon Falls State Park, now has a paved parking area, vault toilets, picnic tables, grills, and an interpretive display. It's hard to imagine that this area was once occupied by the busy lumber port and sawmills of the ghost town of Emerson, and later by commercial fishermen whose nets and tugs added a picturesque note to the bay. In the 1930s a local landowner gave the state over 2,000 acres at the Tahquamenon mouth as part of the state park.

The rivermouth boating access site is just south of the picnic area. It's the only place to put in watercraft on the Tahquamenon River below the falls.
