Negaunee Restaurants

MIDTOWN BAKERY, CAFÉ & ANTIQUES
(906) 475-0064
Gradually this excellent, from-scratch pastry shop has evolved into a wide-ranging bakery-café with seating so ample that magazines and games encourage customers to linger. A charming garden has outdoor seating.
When downtown's only restaurant closed, owner Marybeth Rowe filled in the gaps by opening early for coffee and muffins, and by offering salads, soups, and sandwiches ($5-$8) featuring excellent bread baked on the premises. Closing at 6 or possibly later in summer means visitors could shop, eat supper, and stroll around or stay for weekend music or the occasional performance across the street.

317 Iron/BR U.S. 28 downtown.. Open Mon-Fri 8-6, Sat 10-5. Wheelchair-accessible

THE IRON INN
(906) 475-7244
Drop ceilings and layers of remodeling have been removed to reveal the pressed metal ceilings and architectural character of this old tavern. Tim Geraldo is an owner-manager; his partner Jack Beamer has owned Big Bay's Lumberjack Tavern for years. The expanded bar menus are similar: a very good pizza ($17 for a large supreme), chili ($4.25) and other homemade soups, burgers, and more. Fresh made porketta (spicy pork roast) sandwiches are $7 for large). And there's cudighi, the locally popular spicy pork sausage patty. There's a jukebox, occasional karakoke and live entertainment, and room to dance. Children welcome.

305 Iron west of Marquette. Open noon to closing (2:30) daily. Wheelchair-accessible.

TINO'S BAR & PIZZA
(906) 475-6832
Part historic saloon, part sports bar, Tino's is one of those places where local cultures of different eras are layered. Homemade cudighi comes with onions, good sauce, and cheese ($4.25) or with green pepper and mushrooms too ($4.75). Large pizzas start at $8.75 plus toppings. Expect it to be smoky, and to feel very much like an outsider at someone else's party.

220 Iron in downtown Neguanee. Open daily. From Sun-Thurs 4 p.m. to midnight, Fri & Sat to 1 a.m. Handicap accessible: one step. Family friendly. Full bar.

PAESANO'S PIZZA
(906) 475-6121
Paesano's is mostly takeout with a few tables. It makes good Italian pizza and $5 and under sandwiches: chicken, cudighi (Italian sausage patties), meatball, and steak. Pizzas average $12. Lasagna is $6. There's a deck with a beautiful view of Teal Lake and the hills beyond it. Smoke-free inside.

81 Croix on the east end of Teal Lake. Turn north at the stoplight (a Citgo and a Holiday gas station are on the corner) and go north a block. Open Mon thru Fri 11-2, Sun-Thurs 4-10, Fri and Sat 4-11. Handicap accessible. Family friendly.
