Nahma Inn
644-2486
The architecturally simple 1909 Nahma Inn, centerpiece of the mill town, has been reopened by the energetic Charlie and Laurie MacIntosh. Groups of friends have discovered the inn for getaway weekends, drawn by the reasonable rates, pleasant dining room, good food, and cozy bar (all pictured on site). Of the 14 fresh and attractive guest rooms, 7 have
private baths and 7 have adjoining shared baths. Rooms for 2 are currently $65 (private bath), $55 (shared). Rates include a free continental breakfast Mon-Sat. (nearby Tylene's serves breakfast and lunch.) Sunday a full breakfast may be served. Within cell phone range. Only TV is in the bar. Common areas include the front porch and a sitting area in the upstairs hall. Close to DNR boat launch.

13747 Main St., Nahma village. Wheelchair access: one room. Children welcome. 2 people per room.

UPPER PENINSULA GOLF & LAKE RESORT (formerly No-Nah-Ma Resort)
(906) 644-2728
This resort, owned and improved by an Escanaba accountant, occupies the onetime Bay de Noc mill building and site, including the lumber port's lagoon-like slips. The former mill now houses 4 two-bedroom rental units with kitchens, laid out like the cabins (below). In terms of décor, all these are akin to comfortable mobile homes. The mill also has a guest laundry, a game room (ping-pong, air hockey, and such) and rentals— bicycles, sports equipment, and boats: canoes, paddleboats, fishing boats, and jet skis. Boats can be trailered anywhere, or launched on the resort's slips, which connect with Big Bay de Noc, just a short distance by boat or foot.
Six 2-bedroom cabins sleep up to 6 and rent for $705/week or $115/night. The living-kitchen area has a sofa-sleeper and gas fireplace. Cabins face one of the slips; cedars block their view of Big Bay de Noc. Call about TV. Currently there is none in Nahma. Not air-conditioned. Within cell phone range. Hands-on resident manager Mary Levine lives in Nahma all year and is completely up on local things.
The resort now operates a convenience and party store. Its private beach is around from the slips, by the Nahma River mouth at Lake Michigan. (Logging debris prevents boats from going up the river.) The new 9-hole Eagle's Nest golf course is surprisingly challenging.
50 campsites with 20 or 30 amp electricity are in a loop along a finger separating 2 slips. Most are sunny. Some cedars dot the area. Sites are $20 with electric, $17 without. Free cable TV, first-come, first-served. A fire ring and picnic table comes with each site. The campground is served by 6 vault toilets. The campground's 5 showers are in the mill building. There's an on-site dump station.

The resort is where County Roads 495, 497, and 499 converge at the west end of Nahma. Resort open from May thru Nov. Office open 9-6 daily from May thru August. Call otherwise. Handicap access: call. Families: cabins sleep up to 6 with no extra charge. Pets: call.
