Spray Falls

Spray Falls JMP
James Marvin Phelps
Worth the hike: Spray Falls

The journey to this exceptional falls requires a 3-mile but remarkable hike with a great variety of terrain. A woodland lake, lichens, beautiful cliffs and a sand beach culminate with a beautiful waterfall on what is clled both Spray River and Spray Creek.

One can only photograph the waterfall from two dangerously undercut outcrops of rock. The best photographic point is one-eighth mile east of the waterfall (this is the furthest point east that is seen from the crest of the waterfall).

There are some ups and downs, but it is not difficult walking, and there are steps at the steep sections.
-
Drive within the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore on County Road H-58 and turn north on the Beaver Lake Campground Road (a.k.a.County Road 699 or Little Beaver Lake Road).

After about three miles (before reaching the campground) turn left and park at the trail parking lot. There is a trail sign. Take the trail 1.5 miles north to the lakeshore trail. Walk west on the lakeshore trail two or three miles to a broad bridge that crosses the river, about thirty yards from the crest of the waterfall.
