Iron Mountain City Park
Having so much good takeout food in Iron Mountain suggests a picnic. A good spot would be the picnic area of this hilly, picturesque city park in the tall pines on a hillside west of downtown. There aren't many other places that have Italian bocce courts built of logs in the best northwoods rustic style. They're busy with league play in summer. Other attractions include deer in pens, tennis courts, trails for hiking, biking, and cross-country skiing, and a sledding hill. Short (around 1k each) hiking loops are groomed in winter for different levels of cross-country skiing. From U.S. 2 downtown at the long yellow bank building, take A Street a little over a mile west to its end at the park. Handicap accessible: restrooms.
