HULBERT LAKE LODGE
(906) 876-2324
The rustic dining room at this vintage lodge is open to non-guests Sunday mornings. The lodge is in an attractive setting on a quiet lake, with a stone fireplace. A walking path goes through the woods. Breakfasts start at $8, more for specialty items like cinnamon-walnut French toast, omelets, breakfast burritos, and blueberry pancakes.

South off M-28 about a mile east of Hulbert Corners, and 6 miles west of M-123. (906) 876-2324. Dining room open Mem. Day thru Labor Day. Wheelchair access: difficult. Call.

TAHQUAMENON HOTEL
(906) 876-2388
Joan DeWitt, owner with her husband Grant, calls the food she serves at breakfast and dinner "very basic." Snowmobile season is its busy time. Dinner brings pork chops, roast beef, perch, cod, burgers, and pasties ($7) on the low side, and a 12 oz. New York strip steak ($19) at the top of the menu. The building probably goes back to the 1920s or 1930s, she says, but it has been modernized. Décor has been refreshed. Deer antlers, fishing poles, etc. give it a lodge look. Grant, who grew up in Hulbert, has assembled a collection of local history books for sale.

10429 S. Maple next to the post office in "downtown" Hulbert. (906) 876-2388. Breakfast 8-11:30 a.m. Dinner 5-8 p.m. in snowmobile season only. May have a longer season. Closes after snowmobile season. Reopens Mem. Day. Handicap access good.
