See website for various amenities, including possible fireplace, washer/drier, and hot tub. A typical summer rate for 4 people: $925/week, $155/day. Sandy beach across the street. Boat slip is included.

Lakeview Motel & Cottages
(906) 484-2474
10 very well maintained housekeeping cabins (1925-1965) are decorated with authentic, rustic vintage charm. All have porches, tongue-and-groove walls, and at least a partial water view. From 1 to 3 bedrooms. From Mem. to Labor Day weekly rentals only: $475 for any cabin. (Same rates for off-season, or $75/day, no minimum required.) Repeat customers mean limited availability.
Lakeview's small, sandy beach is across a quiet street. It has a long boat dock, picnic tables, benches, lawn furniture grills, and a beautiful view of the West Entrance, with 6 islands. Ideal for kayakers.
All cabins come with fishing boat if desired. 8 have microwaves. Most have sofa sleepers to sleep 4 to 8. All cabins and motel rooms have satellite TV, ceiling fans, and firm mattresses. The 8 motel rooms ($50-$59/night for 1 or 2 beds) are simpler.
The owner provides for every type of customer, with a buck pole, fish-cleaning station, horseshoes, and grills. Loaner beach toys, telephone, books. Computer for e-mail.

3078 W. Lake ˝ block west of Pickford Avenue in downtown Hessel. 2 cabins open year-round. Otherwise open from April thru deer season. Rates by the room, not the person. Handicap access: bathrooms too small for wheelchairs. Cabins have 1-2 steps. Walkers work. Dogs welcome; no pit bulls.

Hessel Bay Sunset Cabins
(906) 484-3913
Six fully equipped cottages sit on extensive, grassy grounds directly adjacent to the waterfront at Hessel's west end. There's a small, sandy beach, a dock (charge for dockage), a fish-cleaning house, a bonfire ring, and a nice view of several islands. It's quiet but a short walk to "downtown." All cottages have 2 bedrooms and small porches. Becky and Perry Kogelschatz have made many updates: microwaves, wood Adirondack chairs, cable TV, landscaping, asphalt drives that kits love. The knotty-pine interiors are fresh, clean and homey. All cottages have water views, picnic tables, and charcoal grills. Rates from early/mid June into mid Sept: $945/week, $155/day.

3347 Lake St., west end of central Hessel. Open from mid May into late Sept. Handicap access: call. 4 people/cabin. $10/extra person. No pets. Handicap access: call.
