Distant Drum

Andrea Puzakulich's custom-made clothing is a stunning find in the Keweenaw. Her coats, jackets, tunics, vests and other apparel may feature batik, shibori, print discharge, knotting, beading or antique buttons. Prices range from $150-$300.
After growing up in the small mining town of Ramsay, Michigan, in 1987 Andrea began in her home studio, influenced by her mom's relatives and travels to Aruba, Europe, Cyprus, and China as well as annual treks to America's Southwest desert region. By 1990 she took her creations on the road, selling her line at Midwestern art fairs and then trade shows in New York, Boston, and Chicago. In 2010 she settled into her current studio within the big converted brick school building (now called E. L. Wright Office Plaza) off Lincoln (M-26). It's fun visiting her place to see her at work, an array of fabrics, buttons and such on her sewing tables. See examples of her work at www.distantdrum.com.
801 North Lincoln Drive (M-26), Studio 101, just down the hill from Pat's supermarket. (906) 369-3786. Call ahead. Open afternoons Monday-Friday.
