Gomanche Falls—Gomanche Creek

Gomanche Falls
Wayne Premo

Silver River to Gomanche Creek is fast, within a canyon, and has many smaller drops. Gomanche Falls is the most picturesque of the three waterfalls in this area (Unnamed Upper Falls, Gomanche Falls, and Unnamed Lower Falls).
The two-tiered, good-sized drop, into the churning Silver River, is one of Michigan's most beautiful sights. The creek is also beautiful upstream.

These waterfalls are not difficult to locate, and it is an easy hike to the Upper Falls. The Lower Falls, which are the most remote, can be reached in fifteen minutes of fast hiking. As there is no obvious trail and a fair-sized creek to cross, it does require some effort. On US-41, about one half mile south of L'Anse, turn east on Dynamite Hill Road and go about four miles to where the pavement ends.

Take the left fork, Arvon Road, and continue a SHORT distance until you cross Gomanche Creek and go a couple of hundred yards further to Silver River Bridge.

Park at the bridge, and walk the two track road west of the bridge downstream to the river. The Upper Falls are here.

FOLLOW Silver River downstream about .3 mile to where Gomanche Creek blocks the way. Follow Gomanche Creek downstream to the junction of Gomanche Creek and Silver River, unless you are already there. Gomanche Falls drops into Silver River at this junction.*wf060601
