Robert Micheau is a Gladstone native. Wife Meghan attended culinary school and makes custom breakfasts at times guests choose. She can also put on dinners with a single entrée, for $25. All 6 flowery guest rooms ($100/night) have private baths and cable TVs, and all are on the second floor. There's Wi-Fi internet throughout the B&B. A charming one-bedroom guest house with loft ($155/night, is in the rear garden.
The Kipling House is the only remaining boarding house of six built by mining behemoth Cleveland Cliffs Iron in Kipling, founded as the company town of a busy blast furnace and chemical plant. Even CCI's workaday buildings like this were typically well crafted and architecturally distinguished.

An attractive swimming pool room has a small kidney-shaped pool, spa, sauna, and game room. (Nearby Van Cleve Park in Gladstone has a long, sandy beach.) There's a fish-cleaning station, and a dock and launch area for ice fishing. Typical summer rates for 2: $90 in summer (less for no bay view), $69 in winter. Guests can use facilities at the nearby Terrace Bluff Country Club: 18 holes of golf for about $27. There's also a driving range and free weekly golf clinics. Showing a room key allows access to the swimming pool, horseshoes, tennis and more.
The original nucleus of the Terrace Inn was billed as "Escanaba's Wonder Ballroom" when it opened in 1933. The two-story north motel wing from the 1970s has soundproof block construction. The older south wing is used when occupancy is high.
