BAY VIEW INN
(906) 292-0061
Here travelers can stop for breakfast, lunch, or dinner and admire the effects of changing light on Lake Michigan, seen from this high blufftop vantage point. New owners of the former Skyline Restaurant have added lots of little touches including more bird feeders, and bird guides and games at tables. It's a simple, friendly place with a grand view and a good salad bar that goes beyond lettuce in the leafy green vegetable department. For dinner there's a full menu, but whitefish is the favorite because it's almost always fresh. At dinner whitefish comes deep fried ($10) or broiled ($11). There are lunch specials (about $6), a good breakfast buffet on summer weekends ($7 for adults, $4 for kids), and soup and sandwiches any time, plus pies and sometimes cakes made on the premises. Separate smoking area in front. Non-smokers get the view.

On U.S. 2 a mile west of the Cut River bridge. Open daily year-round. From Mem. Day weekend thru Nov. open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. Otherwise open Mon-Thurs 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., Fri-Sun 7 a.m.-8 p.m. Wheelchair-accessible. Family friendly. No alcohol.

CUT RIVER INN
(906) 292-5400
At this pine-paneled bar-restaurant, the whitefish, charbroiled or deep-fried, is famous among downstate visitors, who have raved to the Free Press, and among area people who drive from St. Ignace and even Indian River. Whitefish (and also perch) is served in a basket with fries and slaw ($10), and with a salad bar for dinner in summer and on off-season weekends. Friday brings all-you-can-eat whitefish ($10). In "Whitefish Rockefeller," charbroiled fish cakes topped with bacon are served on a bed of spinach. Other dinner entrees include steak, pork chops, and jumbo shrimp. Always available: apple dumplings with ice cream and rum sauce, and hot fudge cake with ice cream.
Breakfast is served. Burritos, Reubens, grilled chicken, and wraps are among the sandwiches at lunch (mostly $6-$8). Good smoke-suckers, non-smoking section, but it is one big room with a bar.

1 mile west of the Cut River Bridge in Epoufette. Open 7 days. Mon-Fri 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., to 10 Fri & Sat. Closes from early Dec. thru Christmas. Full bar. Wheelchair-accessible.
Address: 5862 US Hwy 2 [Get Directions]
