HOG ISLAND COUNTRY STORE & COTTAGES
(906) 477-9995
This tidy, old-fashioned store and tourist cabin complex has true U.P. charm. Owners Tom and Sandy Jacobs have refurbished the place while retaining the vintage character that the previous owner had cherished from boyhood memories of U.P. vacations. The heated housekeeping cabins ($55/single, $60 double) are clean and cozy. (The one cabin that sleeps 6 is $70.) Folks who stay six nights get the seventh night free. The seven cottages sit well away from the road, separated by a big lawn with old fashioned wood swings and chairs. But truck noise is to be expected, so bring earplugs if you're a light sleeper. Each cabin has a picnic table, fire ring, and grill. A private Lake Michigan beach is a short walk away. The adjoining store sells smoked fish, milk, groceries, alcoholic beverages, bait - most of what anyone would need for a short stay.

On U.S. 2 at Hog Island, 9 miles east of Naubinway and about 6 miles west of Epoufette. 35 miles west of Bridge. Open end of May to end of Oct.I>. Handicap access: call. Family friendly: no extra charge.
