Hog Island Country Store

Hog Island
These tourist cabins and the party store with regional foods are maintained as roadside classics. Behind them are big white pines and the sandy beach at the Hog Island State Forest Campground.

Owned and run by Tom and Sandy Jacobs, who moved up from the Flint area, the store here still has the same interestingly funky atmosphere former owner Gino Farone instilled. It carries a surprising variety of things: groceries, crawlers, beer and liquor, gifts, smoked fish and other regional products (maple syrup, fudge, local jams, wild rice, beef jerky, etc.), displayed with nostalgic retro panache. Check out their spiffy new website at http//Xhogislandcottages.com/store/store.html.
