ECKERMAN

Region: Tahquamenon & Seney, Grand Marais & Whitefish Point

Bear Butt Inn
In keeping with the best hang loose U.P. tradition, the Bear Butt closed in March, 2011, its owners sitting tight until the economy picks up.

Eckerman, a mile north from M-28 on the way to Paradise, began as a station on the Duluth, South Shore & Atlantic Railroad in 1889, the year it got its post office. Unlike many other logging villages, Eckerman is lucky to still be a dot on the state highway map, with a post office and a small collection of houses. The Bear Butt Inn restaurant is what really puts Eckerman on the map for lots of vacationing downstaters.
