Glidden Lake & Lake Mary Plains Pathway
A swimming beach is near the 23-site rustic campground at Glidden Lake in the Copper Country State Forest. A ten-mile path for hiking and cross-country skiing (groomed in winter) goes across flat to rolling terrain but doesn't actually reach Lake Mary. The first loop, 3.4 miles, includes a boardwalk across an interesting bog. Two other loops of 4.5 miles and 3.9 miles build on the first loop. The trail goes through pine plantations (some selective cutting does occur on this state forest land), pin oak uplands, and areas of aspen, blueberry, and birch.
Look for the sign to the campground a mile south of M-69, 5 miles east of Crystal Falls. (906) 353-6651. No day-use fee. Not handicap-accessible.
