Bergland-Matchwood Historical Society Museum
Back away from M-28 and to the left, the onetime Ottawa National Forest ranger's residence now houses the young and growing collections of the Bergland-Matchwood Historical Society. It focuses on those two townships. The society is collecting all sorts of materials and has a farm room, a mining room about the Norwich and other mines, and a school room, a point of special pride with yearbooks and many artifacts. The main room features lumbering and town founder Gunlak Bergland, a leading area lumberman. There is also a gift shop with coffee cups and other souvenirs, and local paintings and crafts. On M-28 a bit west of M-64 (coming from White Pine), in same complex as Ottawa National Forest Heritage Center. In 2-story house to rear left. Open from noon to 4 Wed-Sat from Mem. Day weekend thru Labor Day, possibly a bit longer. Handicap access: 2 steps. No charge. Donations welcome.
