Bergland-Matchwood Historical Society Museum

Back away from M-28 and to the left, the onetime Ottawa National Forest ranger's residence now houses the young and growing collections of the Bergland-Matchwood Historical Society. It focuses on those two townships. The society is collecting all sorts of materials and has a farm room, a mining room about the Norwich and other mines, and a school room, a point of special pride with yearbooks and many artifacts. The main room features lumbering and town founder Gunlak Bergland, a leading area lumberman. There is also a gift shop with coffee cups and other souvenirs, and local paintings and crafts.
Anyone can bring family photos to make into a CD. This special service is available for a reasonable price. For exhibits and an outstanding variety of links on the area, visit berglandmuseum.com. For year-round group tours, call (906) 575-3923.
